Yuina wondered... How long it would take, how long she had to hide within her torn and tattered veil before it was torn away from her bit by bit. If there was anything that she knew to be true about Navy, it was that he wasn't a liar. She knew that he would follow through with telling the entirety of Aqua what had happened to her, and that would entail so many others... How long before word got around, slips of the tongue, or well intended conversations that could turn sour...[break][break]
Not only was her ranger's work at risk, but her actual job could be at risk too... Her entire exhibit, fabricated through her lies, in spite of the truth she laid to bear from all of the information she provided and proved.[break]
She could figure that Ollie, as well meaning as he was, would have already reached out to Dr. Graves, an intent to keep a closer eye on her, to keep her safe... But as this was her place of work, and Dr. Graves her boss, that was likely to raise question, suspicion... If anything, she just wanted Dr. Graves to hear it from her first... so that he could make the decision on how much credibility she might have to lose because of it all.[break][break]
"Dr. Graves? Are you available," she knocked at his office door, dread pitting in her stomach, and for the briefest moment she considered turning to run...

It was like any other day at the National Museum of Natural History. GIDEON GRAVES was busy attending to his duties as museum director, cooped up in his office overseeing administrative work for longer than he would have liked. Hearing a knock at his door was, admittedly, a welcome reprieve from the tedium of paperwork.[break][break]

"Oh, Yuina," The professor remarked in pleasant surprise as he opened the door to see Yuina Higashi standing there.[break][break]

"Of course. Please, come in."[break][break]

He invited her across the threshold and into his office, gesturing for her to sit in the chair across from his desk — the very same one she'd sat in for her initial interview with him, in fact.[break][break]

In the moment that Yuina considered turning back into the depths of the hallways behind her, heart pounding against her chest, the latch on the door clicked and the wood creaked open. Now it was far too late. She was perceived, and now she would have to lay in the bed that she was making...[break][break]
She stepped inside quietly, head down, eyes cast in deep thought, concern, a tumultuous mixture of so many things. She was there, and had every intention of doing this, but now that she was sat at the other side of Dr. Graves' desk... Where was she even supposed to start? Yuina hadn't thought that far ahead in any sense of the term.[break][break]
He asked, graciously, how he could help, what it was she had come by for, and there was a quiet moment that Yuina struggled to find any words. But... finally, after what felt like an eternity, she glanced up to Dr. Graves.[break][break]
"Dr. Graves... I'm sorry if this is forward, but...," she started, and stopped, hesitant... but she had to keep going now, there was no turning back.[break]
"Were you one of the ones who went to that place, that Galar in the past?"[break][break]
A semi-mutual experience of sorts perhaps... would be the easiest way to make things clear... she hoped.

One of GIDEON GRAVES' brows arched in mild surprise upon hearing Yuina mention that place — that poisoned past, largely obscured in his memory.[break][break]

How much did she know? Was she aware of Naomi Sato and parker jones? Was she there, too, alongside people like Gunner Graves, Summer Atreides, angelo vestri, skyler dross? Gideon couldn't recall... but there was much he did not in those twenty years.[break][break]

The professor brought a fist to his mouth, clearing his throat before responding.[break][break]

"I was, but," He pressed her with a curious look. "I don't remember much of it."[break][break]

That was only a half-truth. Recently, memories had begun to resurface in his mind. But Yuina Higashi didn't need to know that. Not yet, possibly not ever, depending on what she said next.[break][break]

"Why are you asking, Yuina?"

For as out of place and out of line as the question was, it was the only way that Yuina could think of to start treading into the waters of her own experience. She sounded crazy otherwise, she hardly had any proof, and there was only one other instance of humans passing through and beyond the threshold of a time space distortion, but none of them had survived...[break][break]
"I'm sorry, Dr. Graves, but I had to ask to know that you experienced something similar... to what I have, so that you might believe me," she spoke slowly, evenly, hesitantly. Was she really going to lay it all to bear?[break][break]
"I've lied to you about my work Dr. Graves, about my research and credibility on the Hisuian era," she spoke then, a heavy admittance.[break]
"It's not research, all of my work, everything I've detailed about Hisui is all from memory. My own memories of spending time there."

Whatever GIDEON GRAVES had expected Yuina Higashi to say, it most certainly hadn't been that.[break][break]

"...I see." [break][break]

The professor replied after a long moment of silence needed to process exactly what was being said. Was this a joke? No, and if it was, it wasn't a very good one. Besides, Yuina's demeanor was skittish and reserved, yet genuine.[break][break]

"I'd... have a hard time believing you normally, but," Elbows at his armrests, Gideon steepled his fingers together in contemplation before continuing, "Hoenn is quite the anomalous place as of late, isn't it?"[break][break]

The creak of his office chair punctuated his next statement.[break][break]

"Alright. I'll hear you out."[break][break]

Lived memories from a bygone time? His curiosity was getting the better of him.[break][break]
